Former Olympian Charged with Running a Drug Ring
Meth is one helluva drug. Just compare the mugshot of former figure skating champion and Olympian Nicole Bobek to pictures of her in her prime. Bobek was released on bond today after pleading not guilty in a New Jersey court to a drug conspiracy charge.
According to Guy Gregory of the Hudson County prosecutor’s office, Bobek, was arrested at her home in Jupiter, Florida, last week on a charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Hudson County, New Jersey,
She waived extradition rights to face the charges in New Jersey and made her first appearance in court on Monday via video, entering a plea of not guilty.
After yesterday’s hearing, bail was set at $200,000, but Bobek’s attorney was able to have her bail reduced from $200,000 cash or bond to $100,000 cash or bond, which she subsequently was able to make.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio, 19 people have been arrested in connection with the alleged drug ring, which police have been investigating for nearly a year.
If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in prison.
