
Adam Sandler’s “Funny People” about a terminally ill comedy star took the top spot with a modest $23.4.
Despite having no other competition, the not so funny film took home less than $25 million. It also debuted well below most of Adam Sandler’s other recent comedies, which typically open with $30 million to $40 million. It’s one of the Sandler’s lowest-ever opener to date.
Last weekend’s box office champ, ‘G-Force’, slipped a spot to third with $17.1 million, as it lifted its total to $66.5 million. Meanwhile, ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ jumped up to second with $17.7 million. Potter which holds the top spot worldwide brings its worldwide total to $747.7 million. “The Ugly Truth” came in fourth with $13 million and ‘Aliens in the Attic’, Fox’s CGI and live-action adventure about kids on a family vacation fighting off aliens, debuted in fifth with $7.8 million.
“Bruno” is officially a box office bomb. After three weekends and just $59.1 million, it is now officially off the Top 10.
