Stephenie Meyer’s “Breaking Dawn” is being accused of plagiarism. According to Jordan Scott, Meyer lifted passages from an obscure book Scott wrote called “The Nocturne.” J. Craig Williams, who represents Scott, says that the passages in question involve few word-for-word similarities but that the two books have similar plot and character points. He goes on to say, “I think the fans have to read both books and make up their own mind, like a judge is going to have to.” Scott has sent a cease and desist letter to stop any and all further publication of “Breaking Dawn.”
For starters, “Breaking Dawn” is too awful to be stolen. Who would steal that? If Meyer did steal, could she not find a better book or plot to steal from? Secondly, we love how they suggest fans have to read both books, which in other words boils down to “buy my book too so I can get paid.” We see what you did there.

***Spoiler Alert***
Scott claims to have started her book in 2003 and published various chapters and passages of her book on her website until it’s completion and publication in 2006. “Breaking Dawn” was published in August of 2008. In athecease-and-desist letter Williams sent to Hachette Book Group, he provided comparisons from the two books of a wedding, a sex-on-the-beach episode and a passage where a Belle-turns-vampire and describes the wrenching change. As another instance of similarities, Williams pointed out that characters in both books call their wives “love.” are just a few of the accused instances of plagiarism.
Give us a break, from what’s being alleged here it sounds like they found the most mundane of things that could be in just about a million other books. Seriously, calling a wife “love”? Sex on the beach? A wedding???
