After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, Patrick Swayze has died today his publicist reported from Los Angeles. He was 57.
Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January 2008. Despite the diagnosis, he continued to work including a memoir he put together with his wife as well as shooting the A&E drama series “The Beast,” for which he had already made the pilot. He chose not to use painkilling drugs because he felt they would have taken away from his performance.
Named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1991, he enjoyed success in Hollywood in such movies as “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost.” Swayze’s “Ghost” co-star, Demi Moore, tweeted: “RIP P Swayze.”
Swayze was married to Lisa Niemi from June 12, 1975 until his death. They had no children
