Thousands attended Wednesday’s much-anticipated world premiere of This is it at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The concert movie/documentary, which chronicles Michael Jackson’s final days as he prepared for a worldwide tour, opens today.

Sony pulled out all the stops for the premiere, transforming the plaza in front of Nokia Theater with an elegant array of crystal chandeliers, displays of Jackson’s costumes and “This Is It” spelled out in giant letters. Silver rhinestone gloves were distributed to fans. The lavish red carpet attracted such stars as Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Neil Patrick Harris, Paula Abdul, , Paris Hilton, and Katy Perry.

Four of Jackson’s brothers — Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and Jackie — attended the premiere and expressed great satisfaction after watching it. Notably absent were Michael’s mother, Katherine, and his sister, Latoya, both who have gone on record saying the refuse to see the film.

The film has been receiving positive reviews.
