Chances are Adam Lambert pretty much destroyed his career with middle America after his performance at the American Music Awards. And that’s just from the headache inducing shrieking he passes off as singing. The ‘American Idol’ runner-up closed out the show with a raunchy, sex charged S&M-themed performance on Sunday night.
Adam covered all the basics including fondling a female dancer, dry humping his dancers, jamming some guy’s face into his crotch to simulate a blow job, swapping spit with a male band member and leading two leather-clad men across the stage on leashes. He also fell, but covered it up well with a ninja roll.
The broadcast cut away during the part where Lambert grabbed a dancer and put his mouth on his crotch but it wasn’t quick enough.
Naturally many are upset because it wasn’t ‘appropriate’ for the awards. According to reports, some of the more raunchier bits were definitely not rehearsed and took the organizers by surprise. Most was edited out the West coast airing.
The editing didn’t go over well with Adam. He’s calling it discrimination:
“You know honestly, if I offended some people, it’s apples and oranges. I’m not an artist that does things for every single person. I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren’t really for everybody either.”
“There’s a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I’m a male, and I’ll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem.”
“People are scared and it’s really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it’s all for a laugh, it’s really not that big of a deal.”
Check out the performance below. The cut away happens slightly after the minute mark:
