Artie Lange Stabbed Himself 9 Times in Apparent Suicide Attempt

Troubled comic and Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange was hospitalized over the weekend after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt.

According to reports, it was Lange’s mom who called 911 Saturday morning after she entered his Hoboken apartment to drop off food only to find her son in a pool of blood. Lange sustained six “hesitation wounds” and three deep plunges.

Surgeons were able to save Lange despite the profuse bleeding.

Lange has a long history of substance addiction and has been notably absent from The Howard Stern Show for the last month. In December, he announced he would be taking a hiatus in order to try and get his head together. This isn’t Langes’ first attempt at suicide, he wrote in his recent biography that he tried to kill himself once before by overdosing on prescription drugs.

On Monday, Howard Stern referenced Lange’s troubles stating, “We all have our demons,” and went on to say, “Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He’s a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don’t forget how great he is.”
